A belated Happy New Year to all my followers. I’ve finally got over the Christmas and New Year festivities. (not that I did much). I hope all had a great time. Funny how distant it now seems. Somehow time passes quickly and at other slowly, and boy has the time passed quickly for this blog. I just realised it was October 2012 I did the last tale of Chez Walter’s feeders and the guests, welcome and unwelcome. As usual Chez Walter attracts the local cattery with their obnoxious feline friends. However, a cunning plan has now been instigated – I bought a super soaker and boy does it shoot out a nice long spray of water. The cat brigade soon fled and what is more the message is beginning to penetrate their one cell brains – cats are not welcome at Chez Walter. So what is new at Chez Walter? I still get over bookings from the Starling Brigade, they are so fickle just now – I supply the best of fat balls for them, and put out little fat
nibbles for the smaller birds. Alas the ravenous hoards of Starlings soon devour that little treat and as for meal worms, they barely get put out before they are gobbled by the critical Starlings. Alas the Wagtail no longer visits, nor the Goldfinches. However, Chez Walter has become a firm favourite with Robins, they appreciate the fine delicacies of Meal Worms, seed and fruity nibbles. Two very shy Dunocks make their way quietly to their favourite feeding spot to indulge in the exquisite seeds that are placed there. Towards the end of spring and the onset of Autumn Chez Walter was visited by a family of Siskins, word has got out and they are now joined by the numerous relatives. Up to 12 Siskins have been seen at one time. Their favourite
repast is sunflower hearts followed by meal worms. During this present snowy weather the birds do make liberal with the seeds and fat – but they, in return, give me endless hours of simple pleasure during the year. Please if you start feeding birds in winter carry on do not miss a day – they become dependant on local feed sources, it saves them spending vital energy looking for food. A dependent source will be visited time and time again. Have fun folks, I do.
