Retirement an Adventure? Life Is Though

Where does the time go? Where did the time go?  Here it is 24th June and 700 year ago an important event occurred in Scottish history, the Battle of Bannockburn. However, that was 700 years ago and despite some peoples’ opinion of me I was not around then.  Scotland should be thankful for that, if I was we would have lost Bannockburn.  I know that as, in the space of the past few months, I’ve managed to misplace an Ipod, a Samsung Camera and two sets of cooking tongs.  I’ve managed to recover one set of cooking tongs, have no idea where the other went or the camera and Ipod.  Just think if I was charge of a country or two I could manage to lose them as well :).  Those that read my other bogs – Walter Hampson Photography and The Adventures of The Intrepids will know I’ve not been sitting idle in the house.  I have, as they say, been “oot and aboot”, I’ve had another one of the things called a “Health Issue” and of course all the tests that go with that life enthralling thing.  Thankfully the “Health Issue” has been downgraded from a dreaded scare to a “phew its just an embarrassment” and a change of diet will sort that wee problem out.  The last two blogs here were older blogs transferred and revised, again this was due to the enforced imprisonment caused by the “health Issue”.  The winter of 2013/2014 will be forever remembered as the wettest winter that I can remember or lived through.  The seemingly never ending rain added to the frustration factor of not getting out or looking after my garden.  Like I said earlier I lose things, I’ve lost a lot of things from the garden and, thanks to the rain, a lot of equipment I thought I had protected from the weather.  Alas I found that my preventative actions were not rigorous enough to stand up to the high winds and driving rain.  In fact the storage boxes were flooded with water and the contents ruined. I only discovered this at the beginning of May, when the weather had settled enough to work in the garden.  In fact I’m surprised that I did not lose my garden – but as you can see from the photo above (taken tonight) the garden is doing well, as are the clientele of Chez Walter’s Bird Feeding Station.  These little birds have been a source of relief, enjoyment and at times aggravation with their antics.  Over the winter season I had Goldfinch, Siskins, Starlings, Wood Pigeons, Collared Doves, Dunnocks, Blackbirds, Robins and House Sparrows at the respective feeders.  I was grateful to see them as they reminded me that life was going on outside.  Of course as soon as spring came in they drifted away and for a  time the feeders were deserted. During that time I did get out with my partner Susan and good friend Sid AKA The Intrepids – our adventures included a bucket list adventure for me.  Now some people have exotic things on their bucket list – I have simple things like get out of bed alive :) I have always said I would get to the top of Arthur’s Seat in Holyrood Park, this is recorded in The Adventures of The Intrepids blog as Dunsapie Loch to Arthur’s Seat.  I was really chuffed at the fact I not only made the attempt but made the summit on my first attempt.  At the age of 63 I heard the voice of the cocky youth from my past yelling “That’s the way to do it” and not his usual snigger like the time I took lessons to ride a bike.  Of course the obligatory achievement photo was taken

With the “Health Issue” officially downgraded to a “phew just an embarrassment” and change of diet I was once again free to get out and about. Arthur’s Seat was one of many projects done between Easter and now.  We visited the newest attraction in Scotland “The Kelpies“, Lauriston Castle, a re-enactment at Cockenzie, Holy Island, Bannockburn, Bamburgh Castle all recorded in The Adventures of the Intrepids, not forgetting the outings recorded in my Photography blog such as Five Sisters Zoo.  Of course all these adventures cause me to lose time for doing house work, shopping etc.  Over the past few days I have been housebound again, this time catching up on housework, processing photographs and updating blogs and my Photo web sites Walter Hampson Photography,  Walter Hampson Fine Art and my Flickr and Ipernity sites.  This takes me back to my opening on this blog “Where does the time go”?
